the artist's book
My etchings were created as a series united by a related theme. This provided a great opportunity to bind them together in book form. The qualities of the book gave me control over the process of the prints' viewing; binding colors, end papers, ink colors, paper textures were all for my consideration and led to distinctly different aesthetic ends. Each element affects the pictures' and the book's narrative tone.

western style
The books title, "Ten Images" was printed in two different styles: western and Japanese. The western style uses images that were printed on double-length sheets of paper, which are then folded and sewn together in groups called signatures. This method allows the book to lay open flat.

japanese style
Here the group of prints is shown in the Japanese style, where the prints are bound together simply by making holes in the prints and cover, and sewing the stack together tightly. Books bound this way are best viewed when held in hand. This book's cardboard front and back is covered with German linen, and the endpapers are from Nepal.
